Scheduled for launch around January 19–20, 2026, the Urban Cruiser EV will be Toyota’s electric alternative to the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and will compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Curvv EV.

The Urban Cruiser EV is expected to share its mechanical package with the e Vitara. Two battery configurations are likely to be offered, with the smaller pack in the 48.8–49 kWh range producing roughly 142–144 hp, while the larger 61–61.1 kWh battery is expected to deliver around 172–174 hp.

Although Toyota has not yet disclosed certified range figures for the Indian market, the bigger battery option could offer a claimed driving range of close to 500 km or more on a single charge, based on ARAI testing standards.

Design-wise, the electric SUV closely follows Toyota’s latest Urban Tech design language. At the front, it features a clean, closed-off grille paired with sharp LED headlights and distinctive LED daytime running light signatures, along with a muscular bumper design.

The side profile carries a rugged character, highlighted by pronounced cladding, squared wheel arches and aero-optimised alloy wheels, expected to be 18 inches in size. The charging port is positioned on the front left fender, while the rear door handles are neatly concealed within the C-pillars. At the back, a full-width LED light strip adds a modern and premium feel.

Inside the cabin, the Urban Cruiser EV is set to get the same layout of its Maruti counterpart while offering a refined Toyota touch. The dashboard is likely to feature a dual-screen setup, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Expected features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, reclining rear seats, a single-pane sunroof and a premium audio system, ensuring a comfortable and tech-focused driving experience.

In terms of safety, the Urban Cruiser EV is likely to be equipped with Level 2 ADAS, offering functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking. Additional safety equipment could include seven airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold and an acoustic vehicle alert system for pedestrian safety.
